ACSA Cotton Institute Visits Cotton Incorporated Headquarters
Twenty-two students from the American Cotton Shippers’ Association (ACSA) International Cotton Institute joined a Cotton Council International (CCI)-sponsored trip to Cotton Incorporated’s headquarters in Cary, NC, on June 27 to further their U.S. cotton industry education.
“The students were impressed by Cotton Incorporated’s facilities and knowledgeable staff,” Yvonne Yuan, the vice general manager of the international department from the China National Cotton Exchange (CNCE), said. “It is great to see the new product development work to support the global cotton industry. We also appreciate the support of Cotton Council International for making this possible.”
Cotton Incorporated provided company background information and gave presentations on major initiatives such as cotton product developments, agronomic improvements related to production and fiber improvements, Cotton LEADS®, Electronic Fiber Selection (EFS) software, and future developments of cotton varieties. The visit concluded with an extensive tour of Cotton Incorporated’s cutting-edge facilities, with highlights on HVI, spinning, knitting, weaving, dying & finishing, printing and garment treatments.
This trip is part of the ACSA International Cotton Institute’s seven-week, field-to-fabric educational program on all aspects of the cotton industry. Other topics of study include: the history of cotton, production, harvesting, ginning, warehousing, marketing, textiles, trading and risk management. This year’s class has 22 students from 12 countries: Australia, Benin, Brazil, China, England, Japan, Mexico, Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the U.S. and Uzbekistan.
