COTTON USA sponsored a seminar in Hong Kong on April 30 discussing global cotton market and sourcing trends. Around 90 COTTON USA licensees and their peers along the cotton textile supply chain attended the seminar, including renowned brands and retailers such as Brooks Brothers, Esquel, Huafu, Li & Fung, Lotto Sports, Marks and Spencer, Ralph Lauren, Target and VF.

The Hong Kong Cotton Spinners’ Association, the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium and the Hong Kong Association of Textile Bleachers, Dyers, Printers and Finishers co-organized the seminar.

Seminar topics included: worldwide cotton supply and demand, global cotton prices, consumer and retailer reactions to the changing economic conditions, and the latest sourcing developments in light of growing offshore production shifts.

The Hon. Felix Chung, Member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong; Robert Sinclair, Chief Operating Officer, Li & Fung Limited; and Karin Malmstrom, Director, China and Northeast Asia, Cotton Council International, delivered presentations at the seminar. In addition, the Hong Kong government has announced an unprecedented support initiative to bring Hong Kong’s fashion industry to rival those in Paris and New York, and shared some the upcoming plans at the seminar.
