Cotton Council International's (CCI) two-day COTTON USA Sourcing Fair in Hanoi, Vietnam, resulted in confirmed sales between buyers and sellers of U.S. cotton-rich fabrics and garments.

This private trade fair included 12 spinning mills from the ASEAN region, 17 brands and retailers, and 20 garment factories. CCI arranged 938 meetings between the various buyers and sellers of U.S. cotton-rich fabrics and garments. CCI’s initial evaluation indicated two confirmed sample orders written on site, with expectations of future new business resulting from the event.

Global staff recruited a wide variety of participants--especially international brands and retailers representing companies in the United States, Europe, Japan and Thailand--to join the supply chain event and attract mills and garment manufacturers.

Mark Dries, Counselor for Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, welcomed the group at a briefing session prior to the fair. Participants also saw presentations on the U.S. and world raw cotton situation by Will Bettendorf, CCI Director for Supply Chain Marketing, and the ASEAN textile and garment industries from Dej Pathanasethpong, President of Thong Thai Textile Company and Former President of the Thai Garment Manufacturers’ Association. Dang Phuong Dung, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnamese Textile and Garment Association (VITAS), also gave an overview of the local textile and garment industry.

Following the fair, brands and retailers visited five garment factories in the greater Hanoi area to gain a better understanding of the capacity and variety of Vietnamese garment manufacturing.

Twelve COTTON USA Sourcing member mills participated in the event: Apac Inti Corpora, Argo Pantes, Dan Liris, Fashion Alliance, Grand Textile, LVW Textile, Nan Yang Textile, Natatex, Pangrim Neotex, People's Garment, Phong Phu and Tyfountex.

Seventeen brands and retailers also attended: Aeon Topvalu, Blue Corner, Carhartt, Cecil, CMG - John Henry, Columbia Sportswear, El Corte Ingles, JCPenney, Li & Fung, MGF Sourcing (formerly Mast), OBS Gruppo Coin, Quicksilver, Ralph Lauren, Rifle, Stefanel, Street One and Target.
